Settlement and Integration Program (SIP)

 

SIP assists new immigrants and refugees to settle in Canada by providing orientation to their new communities as well as guidance and support to access necessary government and community services. 

Services are offered in: English, Spanish, Mandarin, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Somali, Arabic, Kurdish, Farsi/Dari, Pashto, Turkish and Ukrainian.

 

Needs Assessments and Referrals

Newcomers have early access to a formal needs assessment, and appropriate referrals to available community services that allow them to pursue a defined Settlement Plan for integration.

Information and Orientation

Newcomers have access to information and orientation they need to settle in their community, and to become active citizens. Services are provided either one-to-one, or in a group setting.

Housing Support and Outreach

Newcomers have access to housing support and outreach services when faced with issues such as finding affordable housing, evictions, and disputes with landlords.

Legal Advocacy Clinic

In partnership with Sources Community Resources Society, a legal advocate provides monthly on-site support relating to income assistance, Provincial/Federal disability benefits and other income support programs, tenancy, and debt.

Income Assistance Hub

In partnership with the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction (MSDPR), a Community Integration Specialist offers twice weekly on-site services to eligible, vulnerable and multi-barriered newcomer clients in need of provincial income assistance.

Support Services

Newcomers have access to “enabling services” which allow their participation in all settlement services such as child care/childminding, translation and interpretation services, and transportation support.

Eligibility criteria

For permanent residents, refugees, protected persons and live-in-caregivers who require support to settle and adjust to their new life in Canada. Contact 604.572.4060.
