First Art Exibition of Options Surrey Clubhouse Members

Apr 26, 2017

Surrey Clubhouse, a program of Options Community Services, is a mental health support service that offers a variety of recovery-based activities, workshops, and employment assistance, with opportunities for skill-building and socialization for individuals recovering from mental health issues.

During the first week of May each year, The Canadian Mental Health Association promotes “Mental Health Week”** as a national event. The mandate is “to encourage people from all walks of life to learn, talk, reflect and engage with others on all issues relating to mental health.” As part of this national awareness campaign, we are pleased to have the opportunity to represent our clubhouse during this month, with art pieces from our own group of creative artists, in the hopes of awakening a positive, emotional response from exhibit attendees.

Our talented group of artists attend weekly painting, drawing skills, or craft classes. These classes are member-facilitated and offered free of charge to participants. Our facilitators teach a variety of art techniques from their own experience or education, and offer support to other members.

Each of our artists has their own unique style and expression that is evident in every piece they produce. What a delight it is to emotionally and mindfully explore each of their creations. It is our collective hope that you will also enjoy this creative, therapeutic journey with us.

Our exhibit at Newton Cultural Center will feature a wide variety of individual creations on canvas, using mostly acrylics, as well as, some unique pen and ink drawings. Inspiration is drawn from fantasy, lived experiences and imagination.

Check us out in the May edition of “Spotlight” magazine published by the Arts Council of Surrey. Surrey Clubhouse, along with co-exhibitors from Community Living Society will be featured on pages 14 & 15. Publications can be picked up in person at Newton Cultural Center (13530 72 Ave., Surrey) or by viewing it online with the link below:
