Bill Reid Memorial Shelter

Nov 30, 2015

Work is underway bringing fill to the site at 17752 Colebrook Road. This will allow construction of the new shelter and transition housing to get underway next year.

Replacing the aging building that provides 10 shelter beds, this new housing will provide both shelter beds and transitional housing opportunities on the tranquil farm site.

Options Community Services (OCS) is working in partnership with the Province of British Columbia, City of Surrey, Surrey Homelessness & Housing Society, Cloverdale Business Improvement Association and other community partners to create the opportunity to change lives.

The current shelter has been operating successfully for nearly 10 years but is aging and in need of significant upgrades. OCS and our partners have embraced the chance to create something special on this 36 acre site, leased to OCS by the City of Surrey.

Our new therapeutic farm community will be named in honour of Bill Reid who passed away in 2013. The remarkable former MLA was instrumental in recognizing the need to address the challenge of homelessness in Cloverdale. He brought the business community and OCS together and worked with the City of Surrey to find a solution. Today, this new building will continue his vision of a community solution, helping those who are homeless in our community.

We appreciate the support of the Bill Reid family in lending his name.

Our model is based on the belief that a farm setting can provide an opportunity for homeless men and women to start the journey of stabilizing their lives. Using a trauma informed practice, we aim to break the cycle of homelessness.
